Sequential Crashes at Pershing Drive Exit From I-5 in San Diego Cause Injuries
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 22, 2021) – Early in the morning in San Diego, sequential crashes on an offramp from I-5 caused injuries. The January 21 incident occurred at the Pershing Drive offramp from I-5 southbound in the downtown area.
The time was roughly 5:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a sedan, white in color–went out of the driver’s control and overturned. The car came to a stop upside down, and blocking the roadway.
Not long after, a second vehicle came upon the crash, and the driver tried to miss striking the wreckage. The second vehicle struck the wall on the exit ramp.

The Good Samaritan, identified as Tarson Powers, was reported to have said it felt like the right thing to do.
Responders arrived and transported the injured man to a hospital. The types of injuries he suffered, and current condition, are not known. He has not been identified in reports.
The person who had been driving the second car that crashed suffered injuries that were described as minor. Her identity has not been reported.
