Scooter-rider Collides with SUV on Byron Ave. in San Diego’s Point Loma Area
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 15, 2020) – On Sunday night, a man was severely injured when the scooter he was riding collided with an SUV in San Diego. The September 13 incident occurred close to Liberty Station, in the area of Point Loma where Rosecrans Street and Byron Street intersect.
The time was roughly 10:40 p.m., San Diego Police said.
Reports say the man on the electric scooter was traveling on Byron Street and heading west. According to investigators, the man went through a light that was red and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
The scooter and the vehicle–described as a Volvo SUV–collided.
Responders transported the man to the hospital. He suffered injuries to his head that were described as life-threatening; his current condition is not known.
He was identified only as 36 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Volvo was identified only as a woman, 20 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported. It is not known if she was injured in the crash.
The Volvo’s driver stayed at the incident site and cooperated with the investigation. Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
