Scooter and Car Collide in San Diego’s Gaslamp Neighborhood, Injuring Rider

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 18, 2018) – A scooter and a car collided late Saturday night in San Diego, injuring the rider. The December 15 accident occurred in the Gaslamp neighborhood, on 4th Avenue in the 900 block.

The time was a bit before 11:10 p.m., Robert Heims said. Heims is an officer with the San Diego Police Department.

According to reports, the car—described as a Prius—had been heading south on 4th Avenue in the number 3 lane when it entered the intersection. A scooter had been traveling east on the sidewalk on the south side. According to Heims, the scooter ran through the red light, and struck the car broadside.

The person riding the scooter—identified only as a man 30 years old—suffered an injury that was described as serious. Respondents took the man to a local hospital. Reports say that the victim suffered a brain bleed.

The car—whose driver was identified as a woman 47 years old—had had a green light, reports say. According to Heims, alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
