Man on Parole Arrested in San Diego After Leading Police in Chase, Crashing into Police Vehicle

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 3, 2018) – A man on parole was arrested Tuesday morning after leading police on a chase in San Diego, and crashing into a police vehicle.

The incident began around 5:30 a.m. on Shelter Island near America’s Cup Harbor when San Diego Harbor Police saw a driver—identified later as Andrew Dwight Sigsbee, a 32 year old—driving a vehicle in an erratic manner.

According to the law enforcement agency at the port, officers tried to make a traffic stop and the suspect fled. The suspect drove east and south, past Lindbergh Field, and then past the San Diego Convention center.

The car driven by Sigsbee crashed into a police vehicle at one point. The chase went on through the Barrio Logan neighborhood. Police had to use spke strips to flatten the suspect’s tires to stop him and tear gas. The chase ended close to Waterfront Park, on Harbor Drive in the 1200 block.

Reports says that Sigsbee at first did not respond to commands from officers to surrender. San Diego police shot projectiles containing pepper spray into his wrecked car. Then he surrendered.

Officers arrested Sigsbee on suspicion of evading arrest, assault with a deadly weapon (regarding his use of his car), and violation of parole.

The officer from harbor police who was in the vehicle that the suspect’s car hit suffered injuries that were described as minor.
