Man in Wheelchair Injured by Hit-and-run Driver on El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 7, 2020) – On Sunday night in San Diego’s Colina Del Sol area, a hit-and-run driver struck and injured a man in a wheelchair. The December 6 incident occurred where Altadena Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard intersect, to the east of I-15.
The time was roughly 9:55 p.m., according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police.
The man had been crossing El Cajon Boulevard on a motorized wheelchair, and a vehicle–which has not been described–that was traveling east, struck him. Reports say the person driving the vehicle stopped at the crash site and waited until medical responders arrived, but left before police came to the scene.
Responders transported the victim to the hospital. He suffered a broken leg, reports say. His current condition is not known.
He was identified only as 73 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The suspect driver has not been described. Investigators are searching for the driver, and the vehicle involved in the crash.
