Hit-and-run Driver Strikes and Kills Man in South Bay
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 26, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a man in South Bay Thursday night. The April 25 accident occurred on Palm Avenue in San Diego’s Egger Highlands neighborhood, close to 16th Street.
The time was roughly 8:45 p.m.
Reports say the man had been walking across Palm Avenue in a diagonal direction when a vehicle hit him. The impact sent the man over the vehicle’s hood, and he landed on the ground, according to a witness. The witness said the driver stopped a moment, turned the headlights off on the vehicle, and left the site. The vehicle continued traveling on Palm Avenue, heading west.
Respondents transported the victim to a hospital. He was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim has not been reported.
The vehicle suspected by police to have been involved in the incident was described as an SUV, maroon in color. It was described as having a headlight broken and damage to the front end.
Robert Heims, who is an officer with the San Diego Police Department, said detectives talked to a woman who told them she hit something. The woman was identified as 35 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported. It is not clear if the woman who spoke with police was the driver who struck the victim.
