Four People Jump Off Bridge After Collision in San Diego; Two Die, Two Injured
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 10, 2019) – Four people jumped off a bridge in San Diego’s Carmel Valley after a collision, and two of the people died, and two were critically injured. The July 9 incident occurred on State Route 56.
The time was roughly 11:00 p.m.
Reports say that six occupants had been traveling eastbound on the highway in a vehicle described as a Nissan Altima. In an area close to Carmel Valley Road, the Nissan went spinning and struck a barrier, according to people who witnessed the incident.
Four of the occupants of the Nissan ran across the road’s lanes and jumped a short wall and off the bridge. According to investigators, the people may have been trying to avoid being struck by another vehicle. The people who jumped probably did not know the bridge ran over a canyon, and they would fall 50 to 70 feet.
Responders arrived and found two of the people who jumped from the bridge had died. They were both identified as men, probably in their early twenties. Their names and cities of residence have not been reported.
Responders transported two other victims who jumped to a hospital with injuries that were described as severe. Their names and cities of residence have not been reported.
Two other people who had been involved in the crash had not been located as of Wednesday morning. According to authorities, it is not known if the two other people were injured or had fled the scene.
It is not known who had been driving the vehicle when it crashed. Investigators are still trying to locate the two missing people. They are also examining the details and circumstances that led to the crash.
