Crash on State Route 905 in San Diego Kills Teenaged Driver; Five Teen Passengers Injured
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 9, 2020) – On Tuesday night, a single vehicle crashed on State Route 905 in San Diego, killing the teenaged driver and injuring five teenaged passengers. The January 7 incident occurred in the area of Otay Mesa, on the westbound side of the freeway close to Beyer Boulevard.
The time was roughly 9:15 p.m., Salvador Castro said. Castro is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Chrysler 300—had been traveling on the freeway. The driver was identified as a teenaged male. Five other people were traveling as passengers, identified as teenagers ranging in age from 15 to 19.
For reasons that are not known, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control. It struck the guardrail, Castro said.
Responders arrived and pronounced the driver deceased at the incident site.
Responders worked to free the passengers—identified as two females and three males—from the wrecked vehicle. They took them to Scripps Mercy Hospital and UCSD Medical Center.
The types of injuries the victims suffered, and their current condition are not known. None of the victims have been identified by name.
Investigators are working to understand what factors contributed to the crash. No other details have been reported.
