Man Identified as Skateboarder Killed in UCSD Crash
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 10, 2021) – Carlos Rey Sotelo was identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office as the person who was killed in crash on Saturday while riding his skateboard. Sotelo was a resident of Lake Elsinore, 19 years old.
He had been riding a skateboard in the February 6 incident, traveling down a hill that is steep on Voigt Drive, according to reports. Reports say Sotelo fell off his skateboard and fell down on the roadway.
The time was roughly 11:35 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner’s Office and San Diego Police.
A vehicle–described as a Nissan Maxima–ran over the teen as he lay on the ground.
Responders arrived and pronounced Sotelo deceased at the crash site.
Sotelo was a student at UC San Diego.
The driver was identified as 20 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on collecting details and information regarding the incident.
