Bystanders Catch License Plate Number of Hit-and-run Driver in Downtown San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 26, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian in San Diego’s downtown area late at night on Thursday, and bystanders were able to catch the license plate number. The July 25 incident occurred at Park Boulevard and B Street.
The time was roughly 11:45 p.m.
Reports say a man had been riding a bicycle across B Street, traveling when the traffic signal was green, and a vehicle—described as an SUV—drove into the path of the bicyclist and hit him. According to witnesses, the person driving the SUV—identified only as a woman—left the accident site.
According to reports, bystanders waved down a vehicle that was passing and requested that the occupants chase the SUV to obtain the license plate number. The occupants of the pursuing vehicle did obtain the number, reports say, and gave it to investigators.
The person who had been riding the bicycle suffered an injury to his head, but he did not want to go to a hospital. The identity of the bicyclist, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The person who was driving the vehicle has not been described, nor has the vehicle involved in the collision. Investigators are searching for both, and continuing to gather details, information, and evidence.
