Boy Walking on I-15 Freeway in San Diego Struck and Injured by Pickup Truck
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 12, 2019) – A boy who was walking by himself early in the morning on Tuesday on an off-ramp of I-15 in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood was struck and seriously injured by a pickup truck. The March 12 accident occurred close to the off-ramp for University Avenue located on the southbound side of I-15.
The time was roughly 12:05 a.m., according to Tommy Doerr. Doerr is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say the boy—identified as four years old—had been seen wandering in the lanes by the driver as the driver traveled on the off-ramp. The driver hit the brakes, reports say, and the pickup swerved to the left on the rainy road. The pickup struck the boy as the driver attempted to stop.
Right away, the driver attended to the boy. Another driver called for help. Respondents arrived and transported the boy to Rady Children’s Hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as major.
The person who had been driving the pickup stayed at the accident scene. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
The name and city of residence of the boy have not been reported. It is not known from reports how the boy ended up wandering on the freeway.
