Wrong-way Driver on 215 Freeway in San Bernardino Involved in Injury Collision
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (March 15, 2019) – One person suffered serious injuries in a collision involving a wrong-way driver on the 215 Freeway in San Bernardino early in the morning on Wednesday. The March 13 accident occurred in the freeway’s northbound lanes, near Palm Avenue and to the south of it.
The time was roughly 1:10 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle—described as a Ford F-350—had been traveling south in the lanes that head north. The Ford struck another vehicle, described as a Toyota Scion.
The person who had been driving the Toyota—identified as a woman 19 years old and a resident of Hesperia—suffered injuries that were described as major. Respondents transported the victim to a hospital. Her name has not been reported. The types of injuries she suffered have not been reported, and her current condition is not known.
Authorities arrested the wrong-way driver, identified as Joseph Charles Zuker, 38 years old and a resident of Bakersfield. He is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
No details have been reported on whether anyone else had been traveling as a passenger in either vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators are examining the details and information to understand the circumstances of the incident.
