Semi Truck and Vehicle Crash Down Embankment of 15 Freeway in Cajon Pass, Starting Fire
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (November 13, 2019) – Early in the morning on Tuesday, a collision in the Cajon Pass involving a vehicle and a big rig sent the two vehicles down an embankment next to the 15 Freeway. Fire erupted in the November 12 incident, which occurred near State Route 138 and to the north of it.
The time was roughly 5:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say the two vehicles had been traveling on the northbound side of the freeway, and the big rig went out of the driver’s control, for reasons that are not known.
The big rig hit the vehicle, and they both went off the roadway and plunged through an embankment. The vehicles landed 70 feet below, reports say.
A fire erupted from the crash. Responders from San Bernardino County extinguished the blaze.
According to information from Caltrans, no one was hurt in the incident. The make and model of the vehicle that was struck by the semi has not been reported.
The identities of the two drivers have also not been reported, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. It is not known if anyone had been a passenger in either vehicle.
Investigators are working on gathering information to understand the sequence of events and circumstances that led to the crash. No other details are known at this time.
