Toddler Struck by Hit-and-run Driver in San Bernardino Identified by Family
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (November 4, 2020) – Richard Martinez, also known as Richie, was identified by a family member as the toddler who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in San Bernardino on Halloween. Richie had been trick-or-treating when the October 31 incident occurred close to where North Sierra Way and 35th Street intersect.
The time was roughly 8:15 p.m., San Bernardino Police said.
The toddler was out trick-or-treating with his two brothers and his mother. He had stepped off a sidewalk, reports say, and a vehicle–described as a Toyota Camry, silver in color–struck him.
The driver did not stop to help the boy, and fled the incident site.
Responders arrived and took Richie to a hospital in the area. His condition was critical, but stable, according to reports. He is three years old.
Investigators are searching for the vehicle involved, and the suspected hit-and-run driver. The driver has not been described.
