Woman Struck, Possibly Intentionally, in San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (October 19, 2020) – Marlen Munoz was struck by a vehicle–possibly on purpose–last Tuesday in San Bernardino. The October 13 incident occurred in the vicinity of Frontage Road, close to Highland Avenue.
The time was roughly 3:20 p.m., San Bernardino Police said.
The brother-in-law of Munoz–identified as Alejandro Isable–is reported to have said the victim had been standing at the street corner and selling fruit. A vehicle–described as an SUV, black in color–smashed into Munoz’s fruit stand, and ran over her.
Responders transported Munoz to Loma Linda University Medical Center. She suffered serious injuries, and her condition is critical. Munoz is a resident of San Bernardino, 28 years old.
According to people who witnessed the incident, the driver appeared to smash and run Munoz over on purpose. Investigators have not yet learned the motive.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon by authorities. He was identified as Robert Spargo, 42 years old.
Investigators think Spargo may have been DUI, reports say, because a number of aerosol spray cans that were empty were found in the SUV with him.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident. If anyone has information about the crash, the person can call Detective Flesher. The number is 909-384-5655.
Calls can also be made to Sergeant Tello. The number is 909-384-5613.
