Man Exiting Disabled Vehicle on 10 Freeway in San Bernardino Hit and Killed
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (October 9, 2018) – A man was hit and killed in San Bernardino after he exited a vehicle that was disabled on the 10 Freeway. The October 6 accident occurred close to Richardson Street, between Mountain View Avenue and Tippecanoe Avenue.
The time was roughly 2:15 a.m.
California Highway Patrol said the man—identified as a resident of Yucaipa, 36 years old—was run over.
The victim had been traveling as a passenger in a vehicle described as a Chevrolet pickup truck. The pickup had been traveling east on the freeway when it had a flat tire. The pickup stopped, and reports say that it was blocking the center divider and a portion of the left lane.
The victim exited on the pickup’s right side, and a Honda Civic hit him, according to CHP. After swerving to the right, the Honda hit a Lexus.
The victim died at the accident scene. Officers arrested the pickup’s driver—identified as Carlos Osorio, a 33-year-old resident of Redlands—on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to the California Highway Patrol, neither driver of the Lexus or Honda was impaired.
Responders took the Honda’s driver, who suffered serious injuries, and the passenger, who suffered minor injuries, to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
No information has been reported on any other possible victims.
