San Bernardino, CA – Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Pregnant Maribel Gonzalez

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (July 11, 2018) – Maribel Gonzalez, who walking across the street in San Bernardino, was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Wednesday night. She was near the full term of her pregnancy when she was killed.
The accident happened where Highland Avenue and Medical Center Drive intersect, at roughly 8:30 p.m.
Maribel Gonzalez, who was describd in reports as being 29 years old, was crossing Highland Avenue at the time of the accident. Reports say she was in a crosswalk that was marked. She had a bag full of clothes in her arms.
As Gonzalez was crossing the street, a Dodge Charger, that was described as black, was heading west. The reports say the Charger was going very fast.
The accident was caught on video taken by a surveillance camera located at a store nearby. Gonzalez was nearly to the sidewalk, only steps away from having fully crossed the street, when the Charger blew through a red light and hit her.
The impact threw Gonzalez 50 yards. Authorities pronounced Gonzalez, and her unborn baby, deceased at the scene of the accident. Reports say she was due to give birth this month.
The Charger kept driving down the street and failed to stop. The driver then lost control and smashed the vehicle. At a fence nearby, the car stopped and burst into flames.
According to witness statements to the police, the woman who had been driving fled from the crashed car. She was picked up by a driver who came to the scene of the accident, and escaped.
The report does not have details about the hit-and-run driver at this time, or a description of her.
