Two People Killed in San Bernardino Collision Involving Vehicles and Pedestrian
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (August 30, 2019) – A collision in San Berandino in the afternoon on Tuesday, involving two vehicles and a pedestrian, killed two children identified as Heather Durham and Jason Castellanos. The August 27 incident occurred on Sierra Way close to 18th Street.
The time was roughly 3:23 p.m.
Reports say Castellanos had been walking across Sierra Way when a car, which had been traveling southbound, hit him. The car was then hit by a motorcycle, which had been traveling behind it. The impact threw the man who was driving the motorcycle, and Durham, who was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Responders arrived and transported Durham, Castellanos, and the driver of the motorcycle to hospitals in the area. The three victims suffered injuries that were described as major.
Durham and Castellanos died from the injuries they suffered. Durham was 10 years old and a resident of Ontario. Castellanos was 14 years old, and a resident of San Bernardino.
The condition of the person who had been driving the motorcycle—identified only as a man in his 20s—was described as stable. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the car—identified only as a woman 37 years old—was not hurt. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather details and information to understand what factors contributed to the crash.
