Man Identified as Passenger Killed in San Bernardino Crash
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (April 13, 2020) – Daisean Washington was identified by authorities as the passenger who was killed in a crash in San Bernardino involving a suspected stolen vehicle. The April 9 occurred where Center Drive and 16th Street intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 1:00 a.m., Jeff Harvey said. Harvey is a sergeant with San Bernardino Police.
Reports say Washington had been traveling as a passenger in a vehicle–described as a Kia Soul–that was reported as stolen. According to police, officers attempted to stop the driver, but the driver fled.
Police pursued the vehicle, and on 16th Street near Medical Center Drive, the Kia went out of the suspect driver’s control. The vehicle hit a tree, a car parked on the street, and a utility pole.
Responders arrived and found a passenger was killed in the crash. He was identified as Daisean Washington, a resident of San Bernardino 18 years old.
Responders transported the suspect driver to the hospital. He suffered injuries that were described as major.
The driver had given investigators a false name at first, reports say. He was later identified as Garyon Jaquise Perkins, a resident of San Bernardino 19 years old.
Authorities arrested Perkins on suspicion of evading police resulting in death, and vehicular manslaughter.
Investigators are continuing to gather information and details regarding the incident.
