Suspect Remains at Large in Escondido Hit-and-Run That Killed Samuel Calloway

ESCONDIDO, CA (February 8, 2025)  – Authorities are searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a former Marine, Samuel Calloway, in Escondido on Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on January 25 at the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Seven Oakes Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Samuel Calloway was walking home from a store when he was struck by a green or teal-colored pickup truck.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to provide aid. Calloway suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Calloway, a former Marine, had been stationed at Camp Pendleton and served in Afghanistan.

Authorities are actively investigating the case, but as of now, the suspect remains at large. CHP officials are urging anyone with information about the hit-and-run to come forward.
