Jeanne Bruneau Killed in Crash in Riverside County

RIVERSIDE, CA (December 31, 2018) – Jeanne Bruneau was killed in a crash on Friday that was caused, according to the California Highway Patrol, by a driver alleged to have been driving under the influence. The December 28 accident occurred in an area of Riverside County that is south of Riverside and to the west of the city of Corona.

According to reports, Bruneau had been driving a vehicle described as a GMC Acadia. She had been traveling north on La Sierra Avenue, and was stopped in a left-turn pocket at Lake Knoll Parkway. Another vehicle—described as a Chevrolet pickup—hit the GMC Acadia’s rear end, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Respondents arrived on scene and took Bruneau to Riverside Community Hospital. Her condition was described as critical, and she died later from her injuries. Bruneau was a 72-year-old resident of Riverside. She was identified on Saturday by the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

Reports say that four other people were hurt in the collision; their injuries were described as minor. The identities of the four other people have not yet been reported, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. It is not clear from reports where the other injured people were located at the time of the crash, and which vehicle they may have been traveling in.

Miguel Guerrero, who is an officer with the California Highway Patrol, said the person who had been driving the Chevrolet at the time of the accident was arrested. The charges were suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence, and driving under the influence causing great bodily injury. The identity of the person driving the Chevrolet pickup truck has not yet been reported, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence.

Investigators are continuing to examine the information and details regarding the crash.
