Crashed Cars After Street Takeover in Riverside Causes Damage
RIVERSIDE, CA (October 1, 2018) – Police pursued suspects who reports say were involved in a street takeover early Sunday morning in Riverside. Several separate collisions occurred, including a crash in which a vehicle smashed into a store in Jurupa Valley. The three crashes may be related.
Officials from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to an incident in which a group of people were taking over a street. Reports say that a number of cars fled, and one of the vehicles crashed close to Agua Mansa Road and Brown Avenue, striking a utility pole. Authorities arrested the driver, and a person who was traveling as a passenger was transported to a hospital.
Nearby, a few blocks away, another driver who may have been involved in the street takeover collided with a truck and trailer. Authorities arrested the driver.
Another car, seen speeding in the area on surveillance video, crashed around 1:00 a.m. into a market on Mission Boulevard in the 9700 block. The impact from the crash damaged refrigerators in Chuy’s Market. The owner of the store, Chuy Garcia, was quoted in reports as saying that a water line broke and water was everywhere. Most of the computers, he said, got wet. Glass and sodas were strewn about. Three people exited the vehicle, but it is not clear from reports if anyone has been arrested in connection with the collision into the market.
It has not yet been reported if the three separate collisions are connected.
