Car Hits and Kills Bicyclist in Rialto; Driver Suspected of DUI
RIALTO, CA (June 13, 2019) – A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Rialto Tuesday night. The June 12 incident occurred on North Riverside Avenue in the 3300 block.
The time was roughly 6:52 p.m., according to the Rialto Police Department.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Toyota Solara—had been traveling fast on Riverside Avenue, heading north. The Toyota struck a bicyclist who had been heading west on Industrial Drive, according to police.
Responders arrived and discovered the bicyclist down on the road. He was pronounced deceased at the accident site. The victim was identified as a resident of Riverside, 34 years old. His name has not been reported.
The person who was driving the Toyota—identified as John Godinez, a resident of Hesperia 32 years old—and a passenger in his vehicle suffered injuries that were described as minor. Responders transported the two victims to a hospital. The identity of the passenger has not been reported.
Authorities arrested Godinez on suspicion of DUI, reports say.
