Suspect Fleeing Authorities Smashes into Semi Truck in Pomona
POMONA, CA (April 7, 2021) – A suspect who was fleeing from authorities on Tuesday was arrested after smashing into a semi truck in Pomona. The April 6 pursuit began at roughly 5:00 p.m. and lasted for almost two hours, traveling through parts of Riverside, Jurupa Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, Diamond Bar, and finally Pomona, were the pursuit ended.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle–described as a pickup truck–was pursued by as many as six patrol vehicles. At times, the suspect’s vehicle drove into the lanes of opposing traffic, and is alleged to have gone through lights that were red.
The Sheriff’s Department did not state the reason for the pursuit, but reports said the suspect driver was identified as Michael Caleb Reed, 35 years old, a parolee who was wanted on suspicion of evasion and carjacking.
During the pursuit, Reed is alleged to have been involved in a collision in Pomona before continuing to flee. Reed drove into La Verne, and back into Pomona.
At a shopping center’s parking lot, located close to Holt Avenue and Paloma Drive, Reed is alleged to have collided with another truck. The pickup truck Reed was driving then collided with a semi truck near where San Antonio Avenue is located.
Reports say authorities took Reed, and a passenger–who has not been identified–into custody; reports do not say if they were injured in the incident.
The other people who were involved in the collisions have not been identified. It is not known if injuries occurred in those crashes.
Investigators are working on the incident.
