Crashes on 10 Freeway in Pomona Involves Big Rig and Other Vehicles; Joseph Texas Dies
POMONA, CA (November 7, 2018) – Collisions early in the morning on Tuesday on the 10 Freeway in Pomona killed one man. The November 6 accidents occurred in the westbound lanes of the freeway, close to Fairplex Drive, the California Highway Patrol said.
The time was roughly 4:30 a.m.
According to reports, Joseph Texas—a 27-year-old resident of Pomona—had been driving a Toyota Corolla on the eastbound side of the freeway. His vehicle struck the back end of a big rig. Texas’ vehicle then stopped close to the divider in the center of the freeway.
A vehicle—described as a Toyota Prius—that had been traveling in the carpool lane on the eastbound side of the freeway then struck the Corolla broadside a few moments later.
According to Officer Rodrigo Jimenez, who is with the California Highway Patrol, the CHP is not certain if the person who had been driving the Corolla was standing outside of the damaged vehicle when the car hit.
The impact from the crash threw Texas to the opposite side of the freeway—the westbound side. Jimenez said Texas died there. Jimenez said it did not look like any vehicles that were traveling westbound on the freeway hit Texas.
According to Jimenez, two vehicles that had been traveling on the westbound side of the freeway crashed at the site of the incident. Jimenez said the drivers may have been attempting to avoid striking the body on the road.
No other details have yet been reported on the identities of the other people involved in the crash, and the types of injuries people may have suffered.
Investigators are looking into the details and information to determine what caused the accident.
