Woman Identified as Victim Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in Playa del Rey; Suspect Arrested
PLAYA DEL REY, CA (February 14, 2020) – Patricia Ann O’Donnell was identified as the victim who was struck and killed Thursday morning by a hit-and-run driver in Playa del Rey. The February 13 incident occurred on Pershing Drive close to where Campdell Street intersects.
The time was roughly 1:16 a.m., according to police.
O’Donnell had been exiting a business in the area with a friend and was showing the friend her new skateboard, according to Brian Wendling, who is a captain with the Los Angeles Police. A witness—identified as Sebastian Nixon in reports—said an Audi came down the road at a fast speed and hit O’Donnell.
The impact knocked O’Donnell down, and she fell onto a curb, reports say. Responders arrived and pronounced O’Donnell deceased at the incident site. She was 48 years old, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said.
According to Nixon, reports say, the friend who was with O’Donnell hesitated in deciding if he should stay with O’Donnell or chase the suspect. The friend is reported to have entered his car and pursued the suspected hit-and-run driver.
Police apprehended the suspected hit-and-run driver later that morning. He was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence. The suspect was identified as Patrick Finkelstein, 45 years old, and a resident of Santa Monica.
Investigators are continuing to gather information and evidence regarding the incident.
