Robert Bruno Dies Falling from Pine Valley Bridge While Helping Crash Victims

PINE VALLEY, CA (February 7, 2019) – Robert Bruno was identified as the Good Samaritan who died on Wednesday when he fell from Pine Valley Bridge after stopping to help crash victims. The February 6 accident occurred on I-8 in Pine Valley.

The time was roughly 5:00 a.m.

Reports say that Bruno had been traveling to work and saw that a truck—described as a Ford F-150—was blocking the interstate on the westbound side close to the Pine Valley Bridge. According to California Highway Patrol, foggy and icy conditions had caused the truck to spin out and hit a guard rail. One of the occupants of the truck was an infant.

Bruno stopped to help the victims in the crashed truck, and in a matter of moments, two other vehicles were crashing toward the first crash, according to the CHP. Reports say that Bruno tried to run from the crashing vehicles, and went to the bridge’s south edge. Then he hopped the railing. According to reports, in different parts of the bridge, the drop isn’t as steep. Bruno had jumped in a spot where the fall was 300 to 400 feet to Pine Valley Creek.

Rescuers found Bruno an hour later. He had died. The person who had been driving the Ford truck suffered injuries that were described as minor. The infant was not injured. The people who had been traveling in the other vehicles that crashed were also not reported as having suffered injuries. None of the people involved in the accidents have been identified.
