Santa Barbara Pedestrian Walking on Highway 101, is Struck and Killed
SANTA BARBARA, CA (April 6, 2022) – Late at night on Monday in Santa Barbara, a pedestrian who was walking on Highway 101 was struck and killed. The April 4 crash occurred on the southbound side of the roadway, near Castillo Street and to the south of it.
The time was roughly a little before midnight, the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle, described as a Buick, was traveling in the right-hand lane. The driver hit a pedestrian as she walked in front of the car.
Responders pronounced the woman deceased at the crash site. Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The driver remained and the crash site and called for help. Reports do not say if he was hurt in the crash.
He was identified as Isaac Joseph Vargas, a resident of Santa Barbara, 31 years old.
Investigators are working to understand the crash.
