Driver of Suspected Stolen Truck Crashes into Vehicle in Pasadena, Seriously Injuring Woman

PASADENA, CA (April 5, 2019) – A truck crashed into a vehicle in the afternoon on Thursday in Pasadena while the driver was fleeing from police. The April 4 accident occurred where Holly Street and Orange Grove Boulevard intersect.

The time was roughly 5:18 p.m.

Reports say the incident unfolded when a vehicle—described as a utility truck—fled from police. According to Pasadena Police, the vehicle had been stolen in Bell Gardens.

Police pursued the suspect driver through areas of Northeast Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. According to reports, at times the suspect driver was traveling at high rates of speed and running through intersections without stopping. The vehicle was also seen traveling in the wrong lane at times, heading against traffic, and almost hitting other cars.

The suspect driver, reports say, continued traveling surface roads in Alhambra and South Pasadena. The person then drove back to Highland Park, and for a short distance, traveled the 110 Freeway southbound. The suspect driver then left the freeway at Avenue 52, and returned to the freeway in the northbound direction.

According to reports, the driver got off the freeway in the area of South Pasadena, and drove through Eagle Rock and Highland Park. The suspect driver then entered the eastbound 134 Freeway, and transitioned to the 210 Freeway heading west. The driver went onto the 210 Freeway heading south, exited close to the Rose Bowl, and traveled in the direction of Pasadena’s downtown.

The suspect driver was speeding through the intersection of Holly Street and Orange Grove Boulevard when he smashed into a vehicle, described as a Toyota RAV4. Respondents treated the suspect driver, whose injuries were described as minor, according to Lise Derderian. Derderian is a spokesperson for Pasadena. Police took the suspect driver into custody. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.

Respondents worked to extricate the person who had been driving the Toyota that was struck. Responders took the driver to a trauma center in the area. Her condition was described as serious. She was identified only as 53 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported. The types of injuries she suffered are not known, and her current condition is not known. Reports say she was the only person in the Toyota at the time of the collision.

Investigators are examining the details and evidence regarding the incident. No other information is available at this time.
