Suspected DUI Driver Hits and Seriously Injures Sheriff’s Deputy In Paramount
PARAMOUNT, CA (November 26, 2019) – On Monday night in Paramount, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was struck and seriously injured by a driver suspected of DUI. The suspect driver left the site of the November 25 incident, which was close to the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Downey Avenue.
The time was roughly 5:40 p.m., Alex Villanueva said. Villanueva is a sheriff.
Reports say the deputy had responded to a call regarding a man who was acting erratic. Before the deputy could exit from her patrol vehicle, the man dashed toward her window and began assaulting the deputy.
The man bolted toward the intersection, and the deputy ran after him, according to officials. While the deputy ran into the intersection, a vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Suburban—which had been making a turn, hit her.
Responders arrived and transported the deputy to St. Francis Medical Center. Her injuries were described as serious, and her condition is critical. Her name has not been reported.
Authorities located the person who had been driving the vehicle that struck the deputy not far from the incident site. They arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. The person’s identity has not been reported.
The man who had been acting erratic, and who was the subject of the initial call that the deputy had responded to, was arrested as well. The man’s identity has also not been reported.
Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the two incidents to understand the circumstances and sequence of events.
