Woman Identified as Deputy Seriously Injured in Paramount by Suspected DUI Driver
PARAMOUNT, CA (November 27, 2019) – Dakota Palanca was identified as the deputy who was hit and seriously injured on Monday by a driver suspected of DUI in Paramount. The November 25 incident occurred in the vicinity of Alondra Boulevard and Downey Avenue.
The time was roughly 5:40 p.m.
Reports say Palanca had come to the site to respond to a call regarding a man whose behavior was erratic. The man ran up Palanca’s vehicle before she could exit, and began to assault her, according to Alex Villanueva who is the Sheriff for Los Angeles County.
The man began running toward the Downey Avenue and Alondra Boulevard intersection, and Palanca pursued him on foot. As she crossed the intersection, a vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Suburban—that had been making a turn onto Downey Avenue hit Palanca.
Responders arrived and transported Palanca to St. Francis Medical Center. She is reported to have suffered serious injures. Her condition is critical.
Authorities located the driver not far from the incident site. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The identity of the driver has not been reported.
Authorities also arrested the man who ran up to Palanca’s vehicle on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. The identity of the man has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their process of examining the details and information regarding the incidents.
