Tragic Palm Desert Hit and Run Accident Leaves 34-Year Old Jaime Dodge Dead

34-Year Old Man Tragically Killed in Hit and Run Crash in Palm Desert, CA
Palm Desert, CA (April 10, 2023) – A 34-year-old man, Jaime Dodge, has died in hospital after being hit by a car in a tragic accident. Authorities said on Tuesday, that the suspect, who fled the scene, was apprehended in Beaumont. The accident occurred in the evening of Monday April 10th.
Deputies from the Palm Desert sheriff’s station responded to the incident at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Highway 111 and Deep Canyon Drive after receiving a report of a traffic collision. Upon arrival, they found Dodge with major injuries and immediately began administering life-saving measures.
The victim was taken to the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he later died from his injuries at 10 p.m. according to the coroner’s office.
21-Year-old Suspect Christian Ruvalcaba Was Driving a Silver Honda CRV
The suspect vehicle, a silver Honda CRV driven by 21-year-old Christian Ruvalcaba of Palm Desert, was found in Beaumont. Ruvalcaba was arrested and is suspected of a felony hit and run, driving under the influence causing injury, and vehicular manslaughter. Olson said that Ruvalcaba was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Authorities have requested that anyone with information about the fatal crash should contact Deputy Claro Sanchez of the Palm Desert sheriff’s station at 760-836-1600 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-782-7463.
The incident is the latest in a series of hit-and-run accidents in the area, and authorities are urging drivers to be cautious when on the road. In 2020, there were a total of 3,717 hit-and-run accidents in Riverside County alone, with 29 fatalities and 2,211 injuries reported. The number of hit-and-run accidents has been on the rise in recent years, with authorities blaming distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving for the increase.
The Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station is urging drivers to always remain alert when driving and to avoid distractions such as cell phones. They are also encouraging drivers to follow traffic laws and to report any suspicious or dangerous driving behavior to authorities immediately.
As the investigation continues, authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information about the incident to come forward and help with the investigation. The victim’s family has also requested privacy during this difficult time.
