Head-on Collision on State Route 76 in Pala Injures Three People
PALA, CA (October 22, 2019) – On Monday afternoon, two vehicles collided head-on in Pala on State Route 76, injuring three people. The October 21 incident occurred close to Couser Canyon Road.
The time was roughly a little before 4:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say that a vehicle—described as a Volkswagen Tiguan—had been heading west on State Route 76. When the driver reached an area where traffic was moving slowly, reports say, the driver veered to the left to avoid rear-ending vehicles.
The Volkswagen collided with another vehicle—described as a Chrysler 300—when it entered the lane of opposing traffic, according to Mark Latulippe. Latulippe is a public affairs officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Responders arrived and transported the person who had been driving the Volkswagen to Palomar Medical Center. The types of injuries the person suffered, and his current condition, is not known. He was identified only as a man 38 years old and a resident of Oceanside. His name has not been reported.
Responders also transported the driver of the Chrysler to Palomar Medical Center. The types of injuries the person suffered, and his current condition is not known. He was identified only as a man 69 years old and a resident of Van Nuys.
A woman who had been passenger in the Chrysler was also taken to Palomar Medical Center with injuries that were not described. She was identified only as 85 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to collect details and information regarding the crash.
