Elderly Couple Injured in Rollover Crash on 118 Freeway in Pacoima
PACOIMA, CA (January 31, 2019) – An elderly couple was injured when their vehicle overturned on the 118 Freeway in Pacoima in the evening on Wednesday. The January 30 accident occurred in the freeway’s lanes that head west.
The time was roughly 6:15 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Reports say that the victims—identified as a man and a woman, both elderly—were trapped in the car when it rolled over. Firefighters had to extricate the two victims who were then transported to a hospital.
The identities of the victims—including their names, ages, and city of residence—have not yet been reported. It is not known what types of injuries they suffered, but reports say that Los Angeles Fire Department personnel indicated the couple’s condition was fair, and that they had talked with rescuers and were alert.
The type of vehicle the couple was traveling in has not been described, and it is not yet known if any other vehicle was involved in the crash. The person who was driving the overturned vehicle has not been identified.
Reports say the rollover accident led to a bottleneck developing on the freeway during the evening commute. A collision involving two other vehicles occurred a bit before 7:00 p.m. on the freeway’s shoulder on the right, near Glenoaks Boulevard. One of the vehicles—described as a Toyota Prius—had significant damage to its back end. The identities of the people involved in the second crash have not been reported, and it is not known if anyone was hurt.
