Airplane Crash in Pacoima at Whiteman Airport Kills Man, Injures 12 –year-old Boy
PACOIMA, CA (September 4, 2018) – An airplane crashed late in the afternoon on Monday at Whiteman Airport in Pacoima, killing the pilot and injuring a boy who was a passenger.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the plane, described as a Cessna 150L, crashed at the Whiteman Airport, located at 12653 Osborne Street in Pacoima.
The time was roughly a little after 5:00 p.m.
According to officials with the fire department, the plane took off from the airport and as it was leaving, it had a problem. The problem, which was not known, was called in over the radio.
The airplane crashed into a building, and then it landed upside down.
The pilot, identified as a man 60 years old, suffered serious injuries. He later died in the hospital, Amy Bastman said. Bastman is a spokewoman with the Los Angeles Fire Department. The boy who had been a passenger, identified as 12 years old, suffered critical injuries. Responders had to extricate the victims from the crashed plane. Both victims were taken to trauma centers in the area.
No other injuries were reported.
Federal Aviation Administration records show that the Cessna—a 1973 single-engine plane—is registered from Sheridan, Wyoming.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board with look into the details to determine what caused the crash.
