Vehicle Hits Pedestrian, Other Vehicle Near Mission Bay Drive and Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach

PACIFIC BEACH, CA (October 15, 2019) – In the afternoon on Monday, a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle in Pacific Beach; the vehicle then collided with another vehicle. The October 14 incident occurred close to where Garnet Avenue and Mission Bay Drive intersect.

The time was roughly 1:18 p.m., police said.

Reports say people who witnessed the incident said that a vehicle—described as a BMW—had been going at a fast speed. The BMW struck a pedestrian on Mission Bay Drive in an area where there is a raised median.

The BMW went into the intersection and collided with another vehicle, described as a Ford Fusion. The BMW overturned and ended up in a parking lot for Enterprise Rental.

Responders transported the pedestrian to a hospital. The victim suffered injuries to the head, internal injuries, and a broken pelvis that were described as life threatening.

The victim was identified only as 67 years old. The person’s name, gender, and city of residence have not been reported.

Reports say a woman who had been an occupant of the Ford was injured. The types of injuries she suffered are not known.

Her identity has not been reported. It is not known from reports if she was a passenger or the driver.

The person who had been driving the BMW has only been identified as 40 years old. The person’s name, gender, and city of residence have not been reported. The driver was not hurt in the incident, reports say.

Investigators are continuing the work of gathering information regarding the incident.
