Driver Smashes into Vehicles Parked on Foothill Boulevard in Pacific Beach

PACIFIC BEACH, CA (April 10, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday, a driver smashed into vehicles parked on the street in Pacific Beach. The April 9 incident occurred on Foothill Boulevard close to where Monmouth Drive is located.

The time was roughly 1:45 a.m., according to San Diego Police.

Reports say residents in the area were awakened by the sound of the impact, and found that a vehicle–described as a pickup truck–had smashed into a number of vehicles parked on the street and sheared a fire hydrant.

A number of people who live in the area were reported to have said the driver attempted to leave the scene, and some attempted to keep him there. According to reports, a witness attempted to remove the driver from the pickup truck.

Police in a helicopter spotted the suspect, who nearly struck a witness prior to fleeing the scene on foot. Officers found the suspect near the crash site. They arrested him; reports say he was to be evaluated to determine if he was driving under the influence (DUI).

The identity of the suspect has not been reported, including his name, age, and city of residence.

Crews arrived to repair the broken hydrant.

Investigators are continuing their work to gather information regarding the incident.
