Oxnard, CA – One Woman Killed, Another Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver

OXNARD, CA (July 23, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver struck a woman who was assisting a crash victim Sunday evening in Oxnard. The accident occurred on East Pleasant Valley Road in the 1900 block, close to Syracuse Drive.
The time was roughly 9:30 p.m.
According to a report from police, a vehicle—described as a 2000 Cadillac Escalade—swerved off East Pleasant Valley Road. The vehicle then hit a tree. A man and two woman, who were in a 2018 Jeep Latitude, saw the crash. The Jeep pulled over and turned on emergency lights.
The three people found a passenger in the crashed Cadillac. The driver was not in the car, and was assumed to have left the accident scene. The passenger suffered injuries that were minor.
A little while later, a vehicle—described as a 2005 Ford Expedition—hit both SUVs and both women who were there helping.
The Expedition’s driver fled from the crash. The driver was later captured and held after someone contacted police to let them know a man was on his home’s roof.
The report says Francisco Javier Garcia was taken to a hospital, and then taken to Ventura County Jail where he was booked.
One woman, who was identified in the report as a 51-year-old resident of Oxnard, died at the scene of the accident. The other woman, identified as a 23-year-old resident of Oxnard, was taken to the hospital. Her condition was described as stable.
