Oscar Macias Identified in Fatal Police Pursuit Crash That Ended At Santa Ana Ave. and 22nd Street
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (January 26, 2025) – Authorities have identified 20-year-old Oscar Axael Macias of Carson as the victim killed in a high-speed crash following a police pursuit early Sunday morning.
According to the Newport Beach Police Department, the incident began around 3:00 a.m. on January 26 when suspects broke the rear windshield of a 2024 Ram 1500 TRX near Newport Beach. After triggering the vehicle’s alarm, they then broke into a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX and fled the scene, prompting a police pursuit.
Oscar Macias Was The Front Passenger When The Police Pursuit Came To a Sudden End
Shortly after, the stolen truck crashed into a power pole at the intersection of Santa Ana Avenue and 22nd Street. The impact killed the front passenger, later identified as Macias.
The driver, 20-year-old Anthony Samayoa, and a rear passenger, 21-year-old Sergio Avalos, were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Anthony Samayoa, 20, Was Arrested On Multiple Felonies After The Crash
Following the crash, authorities arrested Samayoa on multiple felony charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter, evading police causing death, conspiracy, and two counts of attempted vehicle theft. Avalos was also charged with conspiracy and two counts of attempted vehicle theft.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident that got Oscar Axael Macias killed.
