The Original Acura NSX Twenty-Five Years Later

A dozen or so Acura NSX’s traveled to Palm Springs to the NSXPO. The NSX Club of America will occupy the Palm Springs Air Museum this evening. One hundred sixty-five versions of the NSX will be present. The car was popular from the 1990’s until approximately 2005. Though there was a NSX Fiesta in Japan last week, it only consisted of 82 cars. The 2017 Acura NSX was displayed at the gathering in Palm Springs.
The group represented a diverse crowd. There were men and women drivers there. And, surprisingly enough, there were many young people there. Some of the drivers were Honda street racers when the car was in vogue.
Around 1984, Honda was having a huge marketing success. It was the next natural developmental step for the company to plan a mid-engine super car.
Amtidst
the prejudice against Japanese cars and the decline of the Big Three in 1980’s, there was doubt as to whether the Acura could catch on. Its angles were arrhythmic and it looked different from cars that the public was used to.
The Acura NSX, however, was soon recognized as an innovator in design in cars of its class. It had an all-aluminum chassis, a rigid structure, the all-aluminum, 3.0-liter DOHC V6. It reached 8,000 rpm, and had aluminum suspension arms and brakes. It had many futuristic features .
The car brought in twenty technologically innovative items. It left its contemporaries far behind.
The cars gathered at the Thermal Club in Thermal, California. The club is more grandiose than other clubs. It features an administrative building, garage space, car wash, and hospitality area in addition to an abundance of gas pumps.
Much tourism took place at the event. NSX aftermarket suppliers were in big demand both before and afterward. A catered lunch was served and many pictures and videos were taken.
The driving course consists of the Palms to Pines Highway to Palm Springs, through the San Jacinto Mountains.
