Rickie Motley and Jesse Donald Gluyas Killed in Collision in Orcutt
ORCUTT, CA (February 8, 2019) – Rickie Motley and Jesse Donald Gluyas were identified by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office as the victims who died in a collision in the morning on Thursday in Orcutt. The February 7 accident occurred on Highway 135, near Union Valley Parkway and to the north of it.
The time was roughly a little before 6:30 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck had been traveling south on Highway 135 and crashed into the rear end of a vehicle, described as a Nissan. California Highway Patrol said two men, who had been traveling in the Nissan, died at the accident scene. They were later identified as Motley, 60 years old and a resident of Orcutt; and Gluyas, 24 years old and a resident of Solvang.
Reports say six vehicles were involved in the accident. Eight other victims suffered injuries that were described as minor. The identities of the eight victims—including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence—have not yet been reported.
The semi truck was reported to have rolled over part way. The person who was driving the semi truck was identified as Gilbert Pena, 56 years old and a resident of Santa Maria. He suffered injuries that were described as minor. Officers arrested Pena on suspicion of DUI. Reports say that Pena worked for Sysco as a truck driver.
An early report says a vehicle ran a red light, but it is not clear from reports which vehicle is being referred to. The other vehicles involved in the crash have not been described, and the people who were driving the other vehicles at the time of the incident have not been identified.
Investigators are continuing to examine the information and details that led to the crash.
