Man Arrested in Orcutt After Fleeing from Deputies in Stolen Car and on Bicycle
ORCUTT, CA (April 12, 2019) – A man was arrested in Orcutt in the morning on Tuesday after fleeing from deputies while driving a stolen car and later, while riding a bicycle. The April 9 incident occurred on Orcutt Road.
The time was roughly 9:00 a.m, according to a spokesperson for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Reports say deputies pulled over a stolen vehicle and found the driver had been issued an arrest warrant. The driver—identified as Tyler Phillips, 28 years old and a resident of Santa Maria—fled from the scene in the stolen vehicle, according to Kelly Hoover, who is a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
Deputies continued pursuing and looking for Phillips. A person in the area told deputies that Phillips had left the car and continued away on a bicycle. Sometime later, Phillips was spotted riding on the bicycle on Orcutt Road, blocks away from Lakeview Junior High.
According to Hoover, authorities placed the school on lock down as a precaution because of the nearness of the suspect pursuit. Authorities found Phillips in a backyard on Siler Road, and took him into custody.
Reports say Phillips was booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing methamphetamine, providing false information to a peace officer, and the warrant.
