One Person Killed, Two Injured in Head-on Crash on the Ortega Highway
ORANGE COUNTY, CA (April 24, 2019) – One person was killed and two others were injured in an early morning crash on the Ortega Highway. The April 22 accident occurred close to where Caspers Wilderness Park is located.
The time was roughly a little before 6:00 a.m.
Reports say two vehicles—both described as pickup trucks—collided head on. According to the California Highway Patrol, one of the vehicles—described as a 2016 Dodge Ram—had been heading west on Ortega Highway. In an area to the east of Gibby Road, the 2016 Dodge went over the road’s double-yellow lines, for reasons that are not known. The 2016 Dodge collided with another truck, described as a 1999 Dodge Ram, that had been traveling east.
The person who had been driving the second truck—identified as a man 34 years old and a resident of South Gate—was killed in the crash. Respondents transported the passenger in that vehicle—identified as a man 30 years old and a resident of Los Angeles—to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. His injuries were described as major. His current condition is not known. The names of the two men have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the 2016 Dodge suffered injuries that were described as minor. Respondents transported him to Mission Hospital for treatment. According to reports, he cooperated with the investigation. The man’s name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
