Man Loses Control of Car on 5 Freeway in Orange; Collision with Big Rig Kills Him
ORANGE, CA (October 15, 2018) – A man who lost control of his car on the 5 Freeway in Orange died Friday night after a collision with a big rig. The October 12 accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the freeway, close to Chapman Avenue.
Time was roughly 11:55 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A CHP officer, who had heard the crash, found the accident site. A big rig and a BMW sedan had collided.
The man who had been driving the BMW lost control due to water on the road from heavy rain. His vehicle went spinning across the lanes of the freeway, and into the big rig’s path, according to the California Highway Patrol. The big rig hit the car.
Personnel from the Orange County Fire Authority pronounced the driver of the car deceased at the accident scene.
The BMW’s driver was identified by the Orange County Coroner Division. He was Jayanth Sanampudi, a 39-year-old resident of Los Angeles.
It has not yet been reported if the driver of the big rig was injured in the collision.
