Crash on 241 Toll Road Kills Wrong-way Driver and Injures Three in Orange
ORANGE, CA (August 10, 2020) – A crash on the 241 Toll Road late at night on Thursday killed a wrong-way driver and injured three other people in Orange. The August 6 incident occurred in the southbound lanes, close to East Santiago Canyon Road.
The time was roughly 11:10 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a Toyota Camry–was traveling the wrong way, going north in the lanes that head south on the toll road. The Toyota struck a pickup truck–described as a Ford F-150. The pickup struck a vehicle, described as a Chevrolet Camaro; the truck’s driver had attempted to avoid the Toyota, reports say.
Responders arrived and pronounced the driver of the Toyota deceased at the incident site. The Orange County Coroner’s office identified him as Saleem Rana, a resident of Anaheim, 76 years old.
The person driving the pickup truck suffered injuries that were described as major. Responders transported him to a hospital for treatment. He was identified only as a resident of Corona, 19 years old. His name has not been reported.
Two people who had been passengers in the truck also suffered injuries. Responders transported them to the hospital. The two patients were identified only as a woman, 19 years old, and a resident of Corona; and a man 18 years old, and a resident of Corona.
The current condition of the victims has not been reported.
The people who had been traveling in the Camaro–identified as a man 19 years old, and a resident of Riverside; and a his passenger, 23 years old, and also a resident of Riverside–were not injured. Their names have not been reported.
Investigators are working to collect details and information to understand the circumstances and factors related to the crash.
