Suspect Arrested in Ontario Street-racing Crash that Killed a Passenger
ONTARIO, CA (April 22, 2020) – A driver who was involved in a street-racing incident in which a passenger was killed was arrested on hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. He was identified as Ruben Lopez Gomez, a resident of Chino 22 years old.
According to reports, Gomez had been involved in a street race with another vehicle on the afternoon of April 9. Two vehicles were reported to have been going at a fast speed in the vicinity of Riverside Drive and Euclid Avenue.
One of the drivers in the street race lost control of the vehicle, and it smashed into a number of trees. A passenger was killed, and the driver was injured.
The identity of the passenger has not been reported. The identity of the driver, who is in critical condition, has also not been reported.
According to police, Gomez was the driver of the other vehicle involved in the race. Authorities said he fled the incident site, driving over debris from the wreckage of the other vehicle. Gomez was arrested on Friday, April 17.
Investigators are continuing their work on examining details and collecting information regarding the crash.
