One person was killed when a speeding vehicle crashed into a parked car in Koreatown Sunday, authorities said.
The speeding vehicle, an unspecified Mercedes-Benz SUV, crashed near Western Ave. and 7th St. Officers responded to the scene around 5:30 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police said the luxury Mercedes-Benz SUV was traveling up to speeds near 100 miles per hour and alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the crash. The police are investigating whether the SUV was racing another vehicle at the time of the crash.
A female passenger in the Mercedes-Benz SUV died in the crash. Her name hasn’t been released. The driver of the SUV hasn’t been identified either.
Traffic was closed near Western Ave. and 10 Freeway at the request of the Los Angeles Police Department, according to the California Highway Patrol. The roads were expected to be closed to traffic until 8:30 a.m.
The police are also investigating a hit-and-run incident near the Western Ave. off ramp at the 10 Freeway. The incident left one person dead. It is unclear if the two incidents are related.
