A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy had to removed from the wreckage of a patrol car after it crashed Monday. The patrol car crashed into another car and a pole and the deputy had to be removed by a fire-rescue team.
The crash happened just before 11:30 p.m. in Bellflower. The officer was responding to a residential burglary. The patrol car and Fiat 500 collided near Bellflower Blvd. and Somerset Blvd, according to officials. The patrol car had both lights and sirens on at the time of the crash, authorities said.
After colliding with the Fiat, the patrol car crashed into a pole. The accident happened about five blocks from the home where the residential burglary was occurring.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extricate the officer from the wreckage. He was then transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, said Los Angeles County Department Supervisor Orneals.
The condition of the officer was not immediately available, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Fiat was also hospitalized. No charges have been filed against the Fiat driver at this time. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
