2-Car Collision in Oceanside Leaves Police Officer With Injury
OCEANSIDE, CA (August 13, 2024) – A 2-car collision at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Roymar Road on Tuesday morning resulted in injuries for both a driver and a police officer, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. when a 60-year-old driver of a Toyota Corolla reportedly ran a red light at the intersection. The Corolla then collided with a police vehicle, which was legally turning on a green arrow as the officer responded to an earlier crash.
Investigation Has Yet To Determine What Caused The Accident
Both the driver and the officer sustained injuries in the accident. Paramedics transported the Corolla driver to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries, while the officer was treated for minor injuries.
Traffic investigators are still determining the cause of the crash and have not yet confirmed whether impairment played a role. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Officer Kevin Lissner at 760-435-4651.
Red Light Violations Are Prevalent In Intersection Accident Like These
The Oceanside Police Department reminds drivers to stay vigilant at intersections, noting that red-light violations are a common cause of accidents. They advise motorists to avoid distractions and refrain from speeding to ensure a safer journey.
