Suspected DUI Driver Kills Pedestrian on North Coast Highway in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, CA (January 28, 2020) – Early in the morning on Sunday, a driver suspected of DUI struck and killed a pedestrian in Oceanside. The January 26 incident occurred on North Coast Highway close to the intersection with Sportfisher Drive.
The time was roughly 1:10 a.m., according to Oceanside Police.
Reports say a pedestrian had been walking across the highway when a vehicle, which was northbound, struck him. Responders arrived and transported the victim to a hospital. The victim died in the hospital.
He was identified only as 22 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
According to Rick Davis, who is a sergeant with Oceanside Police, the driver stayed at the incident site and waited for responders. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). He was identified as William Vaden, 31 years old.
Investigators are continuing to gather information and details regarding the incident.
